Q. I want to help out but I don’t know anything about baseball, is there something else I can do?
A. Lots of things. We always need help in the concession stand. The fields often need to be raked before a game. The biggest thing you can do is be there to support your kid.
Q. Doesn’t the town of Windsor maintain the fields for us?
A. Sometimes. But the town can’t come every day. Often times we cut the grass ourselves.
Q. What about the concession stand? Do I really have to work a shift?
A. We ask that each family cover 1 shift over the course of a season for each child they have in the league. Without that help we simply couldn’t keep the stand running.
Q. Well, don’t some of the concession workers get paid?
A. No. As with everything else in the league, we’re all unpaid volunteers.
Q. Even the umpires?
A. Yes even the umpires are volunteers. Try to remember that the next time you see someone complaining about a bad call.
Q. If no one gets paid, where does my money go?
A. Besides the obvious expenses of baseballs, uniforms, etc, we also pay for insurance, building maintenance, the lights, portable toilets and so on. Without the money from the concession stand and the other fundraisers, our fees would have to go way up to cover all of these costs.
Q. When I do work in the concession stand, can I bring my kids in there to work with me?
A. Unfortunately no. This is a safety issue and we can’t risk having a child injured in the stand.
Q. What about mothers day and fathers day? Are there games scheduled?
A. Yes. The league traditionally plays on those days and coaches are not permitted to cancel these games.
Q. How can I learn more about how the league works?
A. The best way is to attend the League Meetings which are held the second Wednesday of each month.
